Sagebrush PTCO August 21st Meeting MINUTES: 

August 21st, 2025

Meeting Start: 6:30PM                                                                                           

  1. Welcome: Call to order Sam 6:30 PM

  2. Introductions

    1. Name, Kid(s), and something you did last summer.

    2. Sam- President

  3. Principal Report

    1. 322 kids (303 not including preschool) 

    2. Theme for the year is Believe: research shows that some of the biggest indicators for kids success is centered around teachers and kids' beliefs in their ability. Focusing on assets to increase belief 

    3. First fire drill on the 20th- successful. Required to do it every month, one has to be within the first 10 days of school

    4. STAR testing began this week 3-5 (reading and math)-coming out to parents via powerschool mid sept. First indicator of the year for achievement and groups will be planned based on results Grades K-2 start next week. Computerized adaptive test

    5. Strategic success plan: Literacy goal: score proficient or above in CMAS from 25.6 to 41%/K-2 will increase from 35%-48% , whole well being goal: belonging- screener in fall and spring asking if kids have a trusted adult at school and feel they belong/new at sagebrush lunch bunch to increase belonging for new kids, Discipline Goal:discipline referrals should be reflective of population (14% black, 28% hispanic etc., gender, SPED, G&T) Action steps: utilizing social emotional tech and behavior tech. School wide goal for staff is around reading goals based on STAR reading and CMAS (3-5)/ Star K-2)

        3. $16K for school grants (used to fund a para to supervise lunch and recess)

        5. $12K for hospitality (for school staff)

        6. $12K operating costs

        7. $1540 Ameritowne

        8. $200 CMAS prizes

        9. $800 field day inflatable.

          1. 4th grade: Inhouse field trip with Golden History Museum $270 (game that shows the impact of agriculture/mining/rivers had an impact on the state)

          2. 4th grade: Colorado Hx Museum $137.50 (cost of buses, the museum is free)

          3. 4th grade: Class T shirts $600

      2. Issues with safety

        1. Kid burnt their hand on the monkey bars

        2. Concerns around safety of kids in the heat during recess. District rule is colder than 20 degrees (including wind chill) is indoor recess. No rule for high heat but allow kids to bring their water

      3. If there is a lockdown alerts will come from Sagebrush if it’s school specific and from the district if it is district wide. (ex: delayed dismissal due to lightening)

      4. New Marquee in Color next month.

      5. Most clubs will start the week of or after labor day:

        1. Destination Imagination (Thursdays and Mondays starting Jan)

        2. Math Challenge- Ms Eckert

        3. Drama Club- 

        4. Girls on the Run

        5. Battle of the Books

        6. Intramurals 

        7. Art club

        8. Vocabulary Club for Second language learners

        9. All teacher meetings are on Wednesdays which has opened space for clubs.
